Helen Miller is the Iowa State Representative from the 49th District and is an assistant majority leader. A Democrat, she has served in the Iowa House of Representatives since 2003.

Miller attended South Side High School (now Malcolm X Shabazz High School) in Newark, NJ. She graduated from Howard University in Washington, DC with a Bachelors in Business Administration and was initiated as a member of Delta Sigma Theta sorority. She later earned a Master of Science in Library Sciences from Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio, Texas. She earned her Juris Doctor from the Georgetown University Law Center in Washington, DC.
As of November 2011[update], Miller serves on several committees in the Iowa House - the Economic Growth/Rebuild Iowa and Natural Resources committees. She also serves as the ranking member of the Agriculture Committee and as a member of the Agriculture and Natural Resources Appropriations Subcommittee, the Advisory Council for Agricultural Education, and the International Relations Advisory Council. Her political experience includes serving as an assistant minority leader in the Iowa House (2005–2006) and an assistant majority leader (2007 to present).
